POKOTABI / Obako
おばこ
Located near Shimura-samchome Station, the izakaya Obako offers long-standing motsu nikomi, hand-skewered yakitori, and selected sake for everyday evening drinks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short walk from Shimura-samchome Station, Obako is an unpretentious neighborhood izakaya where you can unwind from late afternoon. The house motsu nikomi, or simmered offal stew, has preserved its recipe for 60 years; meticulous preparation keeps any gaminess in check, earning it enduring affection among regular guests. Hand-skewered yakitori sets with 8 skewers and gently rolled, fluffy dashi-maki tamago anchor a dependable lineup of home-style drinking dishes.
Drinks span red and white Hoppy sets and various sours to curated regional sake, including Kagetora and Dewazakura Ouka Ginjō. Pairing these with crisp-fried kisu (smelt-whiting) tempura or top-grade lean tuna sashimi makes it easy to linger over another round. Single-serving yose nabe hotpots are also on hand, brimming with chicken, meatballs, and oysters in a dashi broth that can be finished off nicely with an order of rice porridge or udon.
The dining room carries a welcoming, homey atmosphere suitable for sipping a quiet drink solo or gathering with friends over shared plates. Reservations are accepted, and cashless payments via PayPay are supported, making Obako a handy stop on the way home from work.
